Have solar? Free nights are rarely the right choice

You get nothing for the solar you send back, and pay an extreme rate for any power you use from the grid during mornings, evenings, and cloudy days.

I was on the free night plan and have solar panels. They tried to tell me it was because it was cold and everyone's electricity went up, but I have a gas heater, a gas water heater and a gas stove...

June: 3962 KWh, bill $568. July: 3922 KWh (LESS than June), bill $574. They charged me 26 cents per KWh during the day... the month to month plan was 14 cents/KWh. WHERE ARE THE SAVINGS?

This company is a scheme. The way they scheme you is by telling you that at night it's free but during the day they charge you double. You aren't saving any money.

Have a battery? You have options.

Free nights can work depending on your energy profile. But battery credit plans offer a more reliable path to $0 — with less hassle.

Free nights + battery

  • Bill never reaches $0

Charges from your utility company + any daytime grid usage still apply

  • Requires a large battery

Must cover 5pm–9pm daily before free hours kick in

  • Manual setup required

You'll need to configure charge/discharge timers in your battery app

Recommended

Battery credit plans

  • True $0 bill possible

Credits can offset your entire bill including charges from your utility company

  • Works with any battery size

    No minimum capacity requirements

  • Set it and forget it

Connect once, stay in control — your battery only participates during rare grid events
