Privacy Policy for the Texas Electricity Plans ChatGPT Connector

Meter Energy Inc. (“Meter Energy,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the Texas Electricity Plans connector (the “Connector”) inside ChatGPT.

1. How the Connector works

When you ask ChatGPT a question that the Connector can answer (e.g., “Show me electricity plans for 75001”), ChatGPT sends your inputs to our server at mcp.meterplan.com/mcp. Our server looks up matching plans and returns the results back into the ChatGPT conversation as text or, where supported, an interactive widget.

The Connector can also pull your home's real electricity usage from Smart Meter Texas when you ask it to (e.g., “Pull my usage and tell me if I'm overpaying”). Section 3 explains that flow in full.

The Connector does not run autonomously. It only fires when you make a request that ChatGPT routes to it.

2. Information we receive

The Connector only receives information you voluntarily provide in your prompt or on a bill you share. For plan comparison, that is:

• ZIP code (geographic area; not personally identifying)
• Estimated monthly electricity usage in kilowatt-hours (optional)
• Filter preferences such as contract length, renewable-only, or specific retailer

When you ask the Connector to pull your meter data, it also receives the identifiers needed to do that. ChatGPT reads them from a bill you share or from what you type, and sends us only the values, never the bill image or file itself:

• ESI ID (the 17 or 22 digit Electric Service Identifier printed on your bill)
• Meter number
• Your current electricity provider, as named on the bill
• Service address, only if you give it instead of the ESI ID so we can look the ESI ID up

We do not collect or request:

• Your name, phone number, or email address
• Your address, except as described above for a meter lookup
• Billing or payment details
• Government IDs or Social Security numbers
• Cookies or browser fingerprints through the Connector

3. Smart Meter Texas data

Smart Meter Texas is the state-run portal that holds the 15-minute readings from every smart meter in the deregulated Texas market. When you ask the Connector to pull your usage, here is exactly what happens:

• We create a data-sharing agreement for your meter on your behalf. We send your ESI ID, meter number, and provider to Smart Meter Texas to set up the agreement. Smart Meter Texas sends its confirmation to an email address Meter controls, and we accept it for you so you do not have to log in to the portal. This is the same flow as the Smart Meter Texas tool on meterplan.com.
• You must be the account holder, or have the account holder's permission. Only request data for a meter you are authorized to access: your own home, or a customer's with their consent. Smart Meter Texas rejects the request when the ESI ID, meter number, and provider do not match the account.
• What we retrieve. Up to 12 months of 15-minute readings for that meter: power used from the grid and, for solar homes, excess power sent back. From those we compute monthly totals, averages, and peak demand.
• Where it is stored. The readings and the identifiers above are stored in Meter's database (hosted on Supabase) so the result and the download links keep working after your conversation ends.
• Repeat requests. If you ask again for the same meter within 24 hours, we return the stored pull instead of creating a second agreement.
• How long we keep it. We keep the pulled data until you ask us to delete it. It does not expire on its own, and the download links work for as long as the data is stored.
• Download links. The CSV and solar-design files are served at meterplan.com behind a long random link that works without a login. Anyone with the link can download the file, so treat the link like the file itself.

Pulling your meter data never enrolls you in a plan, changes your electricity service, or shares anything with your current provider. It only reads usage.

4. How we use your inputs

We use your inputs only to:

• Look up Texas electricity plans that match your ZIP code, usage, and filters
• Calculate personalized monthly bill estimates
• Pull your meter data from Smart Meter Texas, when you ask for it
• Produce your usage summary, the download files, and a plan comparison based on your real usage
• Return the results to ChatGPT

Your inputs are processed to produce the response. We also record search criteria and interaction events to measure usage and improve the Connector.

We do not sell your inputs or your meter data, and we do not use your meter data for anything other than the usage summary, the downloads, and the plan comparison you asked for.

5. Service providers

To operate the Connector, our server queries a small number of upstream services. They receive only what is needed to fulfill the request:

• Supabase: the database that stores our catalog of Texas electricity plans and retailer information, and the meter data you ask us to pull. Your ZIP code and filter values are used to query the plan catalog.
• Smart Meter Texas: the state-run meter data portal. When you ask for your usage, we send your ESI ID, meter number, and provider to create the data-sharing agreement and retrieve your readings.
• Light Energy: our partner for utility/TDU lookups. Your ZIP code is sent to identify the correct service territory (Oncor, CenterPoint, AEP, or TNMP). If you give a service address instead of an ESI ID, the address is sent to Light to find the matching ESI ID.
• PostHog: product analytics. We log anonymized invocation events, including search criteria (ZIP, usage, and filters), client platform, and success/error status, to monitor service health and usage. For a meter data pull we log the tool name, the ESI ID, and the outcome. We never log the meter number or the service address. Session identifiers, when provided by the host, are hashed. If you click a plan's Electricity Facts Label or sign-up link, we also log an anonymized click event recording which plan and link type you clicked and the ZIP code you searched. These events are aggregate only and contain no identifying user information.

We do not share your inputs or your meter data with advertisers, marketing platforms, or retail electric providers, except as needed to display plan data in the response.

6. Data retention and deletion

Search criteria and invocation and click analytics are retained in PostHog according to our analytics retention settings. Meter data you ask us to pull is kept in our database as described in Section 3 until you ask us to delete it.

To delete your meter data, email help@meterplan.com with the ESI ID or the download link. We will remove the stored readings and identifiers and the download links will stop working. You can also end the Smart Meter Texas data-sharing agreement yourself at any time from your Smart Meter Texas account.

We do not request or store your full conversation through the Connector. The conversation history within ChatGPT is governed by OpenAI's privacy policy and is outside our control.

7. Clicking through to our website

Each plan card includes a link to the official Electricity Facts Label (EFL) and a sign-up link to the retailer's website. Some links may direct you to meterplan.com to complete enrollment. When you click a tracked link, it first passes through a Meter redirect (meterplan.com/r/…) that records an anonymized click event (the plan, the link type, and the ZIP you searched) and then immediately forwards you to the destination. We use this only in aggregate, to understand which results are useful. Once you leave ChatGPT, your interaction is governed by our main Privacy Policy (which explains the additional information we collect during retail enrollment) or by the retailer's privacy policy.

8. Security

All transport between ChatGPT, our server, and our service providers uses HTTPS/TLS. You do not need to create an account, log in, or provide any personal details to use the Connector.

9. Children's privacy

The Connector is designed for general audiences and is not directed toward children under 13. We do not knowingly collect or process information from minors.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Effective Date” above will be updated to reflect the most recent revision.
