The Battery Reward program pays you $3/kWh in monthly bill credits for letting Meter occasionally use your home battery to help balance the Texas grid. A 13.5 kWh Powerwall earns about $40/month. Connection is simple: just your battery username and password. No new hardware, no site visit, and you can opt out anytime.
The short version
- ✓$3/kWh each month. A 13.5 kWh Powerwall earns about $40/month.
- ✓You stay in full control. You own your battery. Opt out anytime by adjusting your backup reserve.
- ✓No installation needed. Just your battery app username and password.
- ✓Backup power stays protected. Your reserve is always there when you need it.
Which batteries are eligible?
The program currently supports Tesla and SolarEdge batteries:
Tesla
- • Powerwall
- • Powerwall 2
- • Powerwall 3
SolarEdge
- • Home Battery 400V
- • Home Battery 48V
Don't have a compatible battery?
Meter works with local installers who can get you set up starting at $10k. A battery qualifies you for the Reward program and gives you backup power during outages.

Start earning credits
Once your battery is validated (typically 1-2 days), credits will start appearing on your bill.
Can I opt out anytime?
Yes. You stay in full control. Two ways to opt out:
- Temporary pause:
- Raise your backup reserve in your battery app. When you want back in, lower it again. No calls, no hassle.
- Full disconnect:
- Change your battery password (Meter loses access immediately), or email meter@poweredbylight.com to be removed from the program.
One thing to know: Credits require full billing period participation. If you opt out partway through a billing period, the credit won't apply for that period.
Opting out only affects the battery credit. Your electricity plan stays the same.
How is the battery credit calculated?
You earn $3/kWh each month for billing periods where you're fully enrolled. This is not performance-based: you earn the credit whether or not your battery is called on during that period.
What "full participation" means:
- →Battery stays linked to Meter for the entire billing period
- →Able to export to the grid (the "Energy Exports" setting on Tesla, for example)
- →Backup reserve at 20% or less so there's enough capacity to discharge when needed
Example:
A 13.5 kWh Tesla Powerwall at $3/kWh/month = about $40.50/month in credits ($486/year). Stay enrolled for the full billing period to receive the full credit.
How will my battery be used?
Most of the time, nothing changes. Your battery stores excess solar during the day and powers your home at night, same as always.
During high grid demand (usually late afternoon/evening on hot summer days), your battery may be discharged to send power to the grid. You earn solar credits for that energy on top of your monthly Battery Reward credit.
Before severe weather, your battery's storm watch features are used to charge it before storms hit, sometimes earlier than default settings to capture more solar. That said, full charge during outages can't be guaranteed, since a grid event may have used stored energy beforehand.
What are the requirements?
- • Active Meter Battery plan with your account in good standing
- • Compatible battery (Tesla or SolarEdge) properly installed and maintained
- • Active WiFi or ethernet connection to your battery
To earn credits, your battery also needs:
- • Battery account linked to Meter
- • The ability to export to the grid. Tesla users: look for the "Energy Exports" setting in your Tesla app. If you don't see it, contact Powerwall support at powerwallsupportna@tesla.com or 1-877-961-7652.
- • Backup reserve set to 20% or less
