The Battery Reward program lets you earn daily bill credits by allowing Meter to occasionally use your home battery to help balance the Texas power grid. Connection is simple—just provide your battery username and password. No new hardware, no site visit, no commitment.
Why join the Battery Reward program
- ✓Earn daily credits — Most homes make $360-$1,080 per year just for staying connected
- ✓No lock-in — Opt out anytime, keep what you've earned, no penalties
- ✓Simple connection — Username and password only, no installation
- ✓Keep backup power — Your battery still protects your home during outages
How the connection works
Connecting your battery takes just a couple of minutes and uses the same username and password you already have with your manufacturer.
- Sign up for your plan. Complete enrollment so we can send the secure battery connection link.
- Connect your device. Select your battery brand, then log in with your existing credentials to grant read/write access.
- Start earning. Once the device link is confirmed, Meter automatically manages dispatches and you begin receiving credits.
Meter never stores your login. Your manufacturer handles authentication, so you can revoke access at any time from their app.

Provide the username and password for your battery's app—the same credentials you use to monitor it from your phone.
Start earning daily credits
Once we validate your battery (typically 1-2 days), you'll start earning credits that appear on your billing statement.
Can I opt out anytime?
Yes. Email meter@poweredbylight.com to opt out or opt back in. This won't affect your electricity plan—only the battery credit. Your participation is tied to your electricity contract and ends when your service ends.
How is the battery credit calculated?
Your credit is calculated daily, not monthly. Every day your battery participates in the program, you earn the credit.
How the daily credit works:
- →Rate shown on EFL: Your Electricity Facts Label shows the credit as $/kWh/month—this is the rate used to calculate your daily earnings
- →Daily calculation: Each day your battery is enrolled and operational, you earn that day's credit automatically
- →Monthly total: At the end of your billing cycle, all daily credits are added up and applied to your bill
- →Flexibility: Since it's calculated daily, you can opt out at any time and only receive credits for the days you participated
Example:
If your EFL shows a $3/kWh/month battery credit and you have a 13.5 kWh battery, the monthly credit is about $40.50 (13.5 × $3) or roughly $1.35 per day. Participating for 20 of 30 days would earn about $27 in credits (20 × $1.35). Every single day counts.
Note: You won't receive credits for days when you manually override the battery settings (like changing charging, discharging, or reserve levels), even if the change was accidental. To qualify for a day's credit, the system must be able to manage your battery for that full day.
How will my battery be used?
Most of the time: Your battery operates normally in self-consumption mode—storing excess solar during the day and powering your home at night.
During high grid demand: We may discharge your battery to send power to the grid (usually late afternoon/evening on hot summer days). You earn solar export credits for this energy, plus your daily Battery Program credit.
Before severe weather: We use your battery's storm watch features to charge it before storms, sometimes earlier than default settings to maximize solar capture. However, we cannot guarantee full charge during outages—grid events may require using stored energy.
What are the requirements?
- • Active Meter Battery plan with account in good standing
- • Compatible battery (Tesla, Enphase, or SolarEdge) properly installed and maintained
- • Active WiFi or ethernet connection to your battery
- • Advanced meter from your utility that measures bi-directional energy flow
- • Interconnection agreement with your utility (TDU)
Most solar + battery homeowners already have the advanced meter and interconnection agreement from their installation.
