Switching to Meter is easy and can happen as soon as the same day. We handle all the paperwork and coordination with your current provider. There's no interruption to your service, and your solar panels continue working normally throughout the switch.
Before you start
To switch to Meter, you'll need:
- An active rooftop solar system at your Texas home
- A smart meter (a digital meter that tracks both energy use and solar exports—most Texas homes have these)
- Service from a deregulated utility (Oncor, CenterPoint, AEP Texas, TNMP, or Lubbock Power & Light)
- Your current electricity bill with account number
What are the steps to switch to Meter?
1. Get your personalized rates
Enter your ZIP code on our homepage to see rates available in your area. You can also call us at (214) 233-6194 to speak with a real person who can help you understand your options.
2. Choose the right plan for your home
We offer two solar buyback plans. Our 1:1 Match plan is ideal for homes that export at least 60% of what they use annually. Our Saver plan is designed for homes with lower export amounts. We'll help you determine which plan maximizes your savings.
3. Complete the online signup
Our signup process takes just 5-10 minutes. You'll need your current electricity bill and basic information about your home and solar system. We use your meter data to verify your setup and ensure you get the right plan.
4. We handle everything else
Once you sign up, we coordinate with your current provider to complete the switch. You don't need to contact them or do any additional paperwork. The switch can happen as soon as the same day, and there's zero interruption to your electricity service.
What should I know before switching?
Will my power be interrupted?
No. Switching electricity providers in Texas never interrupts your service. Your utility company (like Oncor or CenterPoint) continues delivering power to your home without any interruption.
Do I need to contact my current provider?
No. We handle all communication and coordination with your current provider. You don't need to call them or fill out any cancellation forms.
Will my solar panels work during the switch?
Yes. Your solar system operates independently of your retail electricity provider. It will continue generating power and sending excess energy to the grid without any changes or interruption.
What if I'm not satisfied?
We offer a 60-day trial period. If you're not completely satisfied for any reason during your first 60 days, you can cancel without paying an early termination fee.
